Ekaterina Novikova was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and moved to New York at age 5 when her father, Alex Novikov, started coaching famous players such as Peter Svidler and Alexander Morozevich. She spent most of her childhood and teenage years in New York City before moving to Moscow with her mother after her parent’s divorce when she was 16 years old.
